About Me

Thanks for visiting my blog!

My name is Jean-Paul Smit, a freelance software developer and architect with a strong focus on integration in the Microsoft space.

How it started

In 1996 I graduated in Computer Science and I've been working in IT since.

Started as C++ developer and moved to .NET in 2001 at a Microsoft focused company.

In 2004 I was introduced to Microsoft BizTalk Server, an integration and messaging platform capable of connecting all kinds of systems using mainly XML messaging, but also contains EDI support. A a few years later Microsoft introduced Azure and it became more and more important, also from an integration perspective. This lead to a focus shift for me from on-premises to the cloud.

In 2008 it was time for me to go freelance, so I could focus on helping customers the way I thought was best for them. Ever since I was able to do awesome projects at great companies.

Freelance

Ever since I started my own company, Didago IT Consultancy, I worked for and with great companies and always with focus on integration. A couple of companies I worked for are Asics, Vattenfall, Tacx, Marlink, PGGM, AkzoNobel and KPN. Sometimes with BizTalk, most of the time with Azure integration technologies like API Management, Web Api, Functions, Logic Apps, Service bus, Event grid etc.

I'm passionate about software development and I like to work on architectural challenges as well, but always in the integration space and because of that my role in projects typically is the one of integration developer or architect. In project I like share my knowledge and help other developers making the best possible solution with the team.
